EAP

The EAP Business Case

There are many reasons why organisations choose to introduce an EAP including the legal requirements and the financial impact of stress related absence. The benefits for organisations are very clear.

  • Increased staff productivity through improved morale and ability to focus on work needs
  • Increased staff retention through providing a supportive and healthy environment
  • Increased staff commitment by an organisation that shows its concern for their needs
  • Improved attendance and well-being with less stress-related absenteeism and ill health
  • Reduction in management costs and time spent dealing with non-work related issues

Health, Work and Well-being is a Government-led initiative to improve the health and well-being of working age people.

Founded on a growing evidence base that working is good for health, it brings together employers, unions and healthcare professionals in helping more people with health conditions to find and stay in employment.

A case video study

Joe’s story
This film reminds us that Health, Work and Well-being is ultimately about people. It shows what can go wrong if developing health conditions are not managed properly. But it also sets out the vision for the difference we can make – to the lives of individuals and their families; to the success of business and to our society as a whole.

In the film, we first see Joe as his workload and stress levels build up both at work and at home. The film shows how such situations can quickly become untenable – and how, without the right support, Joe’s problems rapidly multiply until he ultimately breaks down.

In the second part of the film, we look at possible solutions for Joe’s case and how key interventions could have prevented Joe’s problems developing. The film considers how Government, health professionals, employers and individuals can work together to find new ways of helping people to be healthy and productive at work.
